Nail Stamping – Coming soon…

For a while now I have seen loads of nail tutorials and nail art which have used nail stamping kits – and now its my turn to have a go!

I picked up a couple of nail stamping kits from PoundLand and have started testing them out, coming to the conclusion that there is definitely a technique to getting it right (or could just be the cheap kit) some nails coming out much better than others, but practice is perfect – so once I’ve got it finely tuned I’ll get a tutorial up!IMAG0941

Advent Day 21 – Christmas Wreaths Inspiration

Walking and driving around town there are a lot more Christmas wreaths appearing in many different shapes and sizes as well as a few more interesting an unique ideas! Below I’ve done a little wreath inspiration board of some of my favorite!

Wreaths

The centre wreath in the above collection made from brussels sprouts and chilies was actually made by my mum and is currently hanging on our front door at home! (she caught the postman taking a cheeky photo a few days ago)

Advent Day 18 – Bottle Cap Decorations

Another quick and easy DIY Christmas decoration tutorial made using beer bottle tops! (I’ve been getting my housemate to save all his for me) – I’ve made my own little bottle top snowman and reindeer which I now have hanging on my Christmas tree!

What I used:

  • 6 Bottle Tops
  • Ribbon
  • Silicon Glue (You need a strong glue to stick the bottle tops to the ribbon, a hot glue gun will work just as well)
  • Paint (acrylic is best) – Black, Brown, Red, Yellow, White.
  • Paint Brushes (I used one thick and one thin brush)
  • Brown Felt

Advent Day 17 – Christmas Lights Nail Tutorial

A few posts ago I made a Christmas nail inspiration board and I have decided to try to recreate a few of the different nails arts – firstly the Christmas Lights. Although it looks like it could be slightly difficult this nail design is really easy and takes no time at all!!

IMAG0695

First I simply used a top coat on my nails, just for the usual protection, I didn’t decide to use a base colour over this, just went with the natural colour of my nails.

I then used my black nail pen (you can easily use a cocktail stick for this) to draw on the main length of the lights – a thin black line, with a few twists and turns to make it more dynamic and unique.

IMAG0692

To create the lights themselves I simply dotted the edges of the different coloured varnished onto my nails near the black lines – if possible its best to try to elongate the dots out to make them look a more like little lightbulbs.

Then its is really, you can use any colours you wish, add some nail gems for a bit more sparkle, really up to your personal taste!

Enjoy – Speak to you soon! x

Advent Day 12 – Nail Art Inspiration

Although I have already completed a couple of nail tutorials I thought it was time to have a look around for some more and the best way in which to do that? An inspiration board – as I have done before with Halloween and Bonfire night, so below are some of my favorite designs – and some which I hope to test out soon!

Advent Day 9 – DIY Pine Cones!

DIY Pines Cones? May sound a little strange a first, however pine cones feature heavily in Christmas decorations and with a little bit of work can take on some really unique and nice effects – and best of all; the pine cones themselves are free! (With a little bit of hunting around out on walks)

Hung on a tree, placed in a bowl or on their own, you can take on loads of different ideas below is a photo selection of some of my favorite, again found on a simple Google image search.

Pine Cones

Pine cones are also great to experiment with – you can really create anything if you put your mind to it!

Advent Day 4 – DIY Baubles

I came across this neat little idea which searching for DIY Christmas decorations and it really caught my attention – its super simple, creates a great effect and can really be personalized!

So, what is it? – Clear baubles filled with whatever you want! Seriously. There are loads of clear plastic baubles on the internet and in stores (Asda is a good example) which split in half to allow you to place what you want inside them. A lot are sold as ‘Photo Baubles’ but really you can use anything, below is a selection of some of my personal favorite which I found online from a simple google image search.

Filled Baubles

Fillings: glitter, tinsel, beads, sequins, sweets, smaller christmas decorations, text/coloured paper, lavender, buttons, chocolates, feathers, dried flowers, seashells, coloured strings – and anything else you can think of!

DIY filled baubles is definitely something which I plan on trying this Christmas, just to see how much I can experiment with it!

Hopefully this may have inspired some of you to go out and make your own filled baubles – speak to you soon! x

Advent Day 3 – Candy Cane Nail Tutorial!

Here’s day three! And time for my first Christmas themed nail tutorial, starting off with something nice and simple yet very effective – Candy Cane Nails! Time to get sweet and stripy!

What I Used:
George Manicure – 14 Natural White
Miss Sporty – 3200 (Red)
Nail Girls – 3in1 Top Coat
Silver nail gems

Step One:
I find that its easier to paint darker colours onto lighter rather than the other way around, generally helps to keep them brighter, with darker bases first you can lose some of the colour when adding layers over the top – with this in mind I used a nail varnish as a base colour, this generally takes a couple of layers to get a good solid white. (If you wish you can use a base coat before applying the colour too) As usual with this don’t worry about being too neat, you can always tidy up your nails at the end – as I normally do!

IMAG0636

Step Two:
Time to paint the stripes on! Its now at this point where I really wish I had some proper nail art brushes, but making do without…Creating the stripes really depends on how many you want and what thickness you want them; cocktail sticks are great for drawing on thin lines but for thicker lines you may want to carefully use the edge of the brush or if you have them use proper nail art brushes! (Another small tip – liquid eye liner brushes are also great for nail art)

IMAG0637

Step Three:
Use a top coat across the whole nail to help protect the colours, especially the white!

Step Four: More Sparkle?
Want a little more sparkle, a glittery top coat is great or even use nail gems to add something a little extra!

IMAG0639

And thats that – Candy Cane nails!
